International Women’s Day 2022: how we are creating an inclusive professional environment
Over the past half century, women have gained more rights and freedoms throughout the world, but despite these advances, inequalities persist.
In the workplace, even though more and more women are reaching management positions, stereotypical barriers and glass ceilings still need to be tackled. At JCDecaux, in 2021, women represented 33% of the Group’s total workforce and 53% if we exclude operational staff (maintenance employees, production and assembly staff for street furniture, poster production staff, etc.).
By the end of 2021, women represented 33% of our executive management committees* and our goal is to increase this to 40% by 2027.
To achieve this, we are taking the following steps.
Firstly, we will ensure there is at least one female candidate at the final interview stage for 100% of our management positions to be filled. This requirement is already part of the ESG criteria for the variable remuneration of our Top Management and Country & Regional Directors. The aim is to raise awareness and promote more equal recruitment among recruiters and managers.
Secondly, we will use the latest technology to raise awareness on these issues among 100% of managers and employees across the Group by the end of 2022, and after this among all new joiners. As part of this commitment, in January 2022 we launched an awareness programme highlighting stereotypes and prejudices using our digital learning platform, the JCDecaux Academy.
Thirdly, we will deploy a guide of HR best practices throughout the Group, covering the challenges of attracting, recruiting, and retaining all types of talents, with particular attention paid to the issue of gender balance.
Achieving this balance requires the collaboration and commitment of all our people – women and men – to create an inclusive professional environment.
By the end of 2021, 18 women were the Managing Directors/CEOs of some of our subsidiaries in all the geographies where we operate.
From South America (Brazil, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Honduras) to Asia (Hong Kong Macao Transport, Singapore), and Europe (Estonia, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Portugal), Middle East (Israel) and Africa (Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia).
We would like to thank and honour these women from across our business who, each day put their energy and leadership in the service of our company and its economic, social and environmental performance.
